Award of Perseverance

“In work or play, a person accomplishes only what they believe they can accomplish. There are no miracles.” – Ben Hogan

In addition to a reputation for steely-eyed dedication on the golf course, Ben Hogan also demonstrated terrific perseverance in the wake of a devastating car accident in 1949. One that doctors predicted would render him unable to walk, let alone play golf.  Through hard work and dogged determination he not only walked, but defied the odds entirely by going on to win six Majors in four years.

It’s in the spirit of Mr. Hogan’s inspiring story of recovery that we partnered with Texas Health Sports Medicine to establish the Ben Hogan Award of Perseverance. This award acknowledges young athletes that have overcome health challenges and injuries to fully return to their chosen sport.

To be considered for this award a student must be nominated by their coach. The committee then reviews all nominees and chooses the final four recipients. Each athlete receives a $5,000 scholarship and a $5,000 grant is awarded to their school.

If you, like us, are inspired by Ben Hogan’s lived example of perseverance in the face of adversity, won’t you join us in supporting young athletes who have fought to recover in spite of the odds? Both one-time donations and Foundation Membership contributions help us support school sports and reward important character traits like perseverance in tomorrow’s citizens of the world!
