BEN HOGAN LEARNING CENTER
Willow Park, TX at Squaw Creek Golf Course
In September 2017, we announced that a second Ben Hogan Learning Center was to be built at Squaw Creek Golf Club. We broke ground on May 13, 2020 date and opened to the public on May 1, 2021.
Features of the new facility include staff offices, three classrooms, garage storage, and a donor wall in the lobby placed on flooring from Hogan’s childhood home. Perhaps the building’s most notable features, however, are the Ben Hogan swing panels on the east end of the building which depict Ben Hogan’s swing, based on original 1957 photos and drawings by golf artist Anthony Ravielli. At different hours of the day, light passes through the panels, creating distinctive shadows and views.
We partnered in funding the facility with the Rainwater Foundation among other donors, as well as a partnership with Squaw Creek/CERA who provided the land upon which the facility is built, and the First Tee of Fort Worth.
We had the privilege of dedicating a room to Mike Wright, a tireless custodian of the Ben Hogan legacy and our foundation’s co-founder. Mike has been the Director of Golf at Shady Oaks for 22 incredible years and in 1986 was appointed as Head Professional there, endorsed by Ben Hogan himself. Wright was a young man from a modest background and Ben Hogan inspired him to pursue a life of excellence. Our hope is that the children in the First Tee – Fort Worth will be similarly inspired to “Wright their own story.”
